Applegate Curly Horse Ranch

Welcome to our humble curly site. We are situated in the beautiful Upper Applegate Valley at the Foot of Mount Boaz in beautiful Southern Oregon. Applegate Curlies are a variety of some of the finest curly blood in the American Bashkir Curly Registry.

We became involved with curly-haired horses back in 1993 because of my fascination with their incredible coats and my wife’s allergy. We bought 12 of our first curlies from Joe Mead back in 1994 giving our herd some great original Nevada stock blood with some Morgan and Arab blood. We have worked with many Curlies that sport incredibly fine dispositions from many different lines of Curly blood.

Our goal has been to produce homozygous Curlies with incredible personalities and the best conformation possible. To help achieve our goals, we have worked with many curly breeders throughout the years which has always been so pleasurable but unfortunately not frequent enough. We sought out certain stallions with truly incredible personalities with really nice movement.

Since working with Curlies has always been a great pleasure in that they so seem to enjoy their contact with us, we wanted to enhance the quality of these fine curlies’ life by doing all we could to help them develop properly with regular dental care, worming and hoof care. To meet these needs we have retained the services of two wonderful trainers with Horse Circle, Deborah Sanborn and Matt Everling. They are really helping us develop our Curlies in a wonderful, fun, and rewarding process through their incredible sensitivity with the horse and deep understanding of structural needs through body work and hoof balancing. Their understanding of in-hand in the French tradition is incredible. Our horses are being trained in the gentlest of in-hand work. Our Curlies love their trainers and we would like to encourage their work with any of our Curlies being sold. We have always had beautiful Curlies but now they are outstanding with great movement and flexibility.

We are currently grooming some of our Curly family for sale. At this time we only have about 3 or 4 horses for sale but as the spring unfolds several others will also be for sale so please come back and visit us later.
